Flavours of the World: Malaysia - Onde-Onde

If you have a sweet tooth like me and you like to try recipes with exotic ingredients, then you should try to make Onde-Onde! This little treat is a delicious traditional kuih (cake) in Malaysia and is the perfect easy to make dessert idea for every occasion. I personally love them.

These bite-sized mini-cakes are delicious and wont take long to prepare.

Total: Preparation Time: 30 min + - Cooking Time: 10 min +

Ingredients:

200 g Grated Coconut

¼ tsp salt Pandan Leaf

250 g Glutinous Rice Flour

1/4 Tbsp of Salt

1 Glass of Water

150 g Gula Melaka

Step 1: Start by steaming the grated coconut with a pinch of salt. Wait for about 10 minutes until it is very soft.

Step 2: Cut the pandan leafs in smaller pieces before blending them. I usually add a little water to this step. Once blended, squeeze the juice out of the leafs.

Step 3: Prepare a bowl and pour in the glutinous rice flour, water and pandan into the bowl. Mix it well. Make sure the flour is evenly green. Then form the dough into small balls.

Step 4: Press a dent into the middle. Fill the dent with gula melaka and seal it. Be generous as you want the sugar pop in your mouth when you bite on it. Roll once again to form a ball.

Step 5: Cook the balls in boiling water until they float to the surface. That takes about 5 minutes. Then coat them in the grated coconuts and Voila!
